If you’re like me, a language lover and occasional Simster, you’ve probably seen the article on ModTheSims2 about how to change the display language. Up until fairly recently, the article was out-of-sync as to how languages are numbered in the game. I wrote this tutorial to compensate for that.
It’s since been fixed, but here’s my take on how to do it.
1: Open Registry Editor
- On Windows 2000/XP, navigate to Start, Run, then type “regedit”.
- For Windows Vista, go to Start, and in the “Search” field enter “regedit”. Select it from the list that comes up or just press Enter. You may have to accept a security warning.
2: Find your game in Registry Editor
- For the base game only (no expansions/stuff packs/etc.)
- In the left pane, navigate through the folders, following this path:
- Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\EA GAMES\The Sims 2\1.0
- In the left pane, navigate through the folders, following this path:
- For expansion packs/stuff packs (maybe.. not tested stuff packs
) - In the left pane, navigate through the folders, following this path:
- Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\EA GAMES\*name of last-installed expansion or stuff pack*\1.0
3: Change the language
- In the right pane of the window, find the entries labeled “Language” and “LanguageName”.
- Double-click “Language” and, using the list below, change the previous number to the number or letter corresponding to the language you wish to switch to. Be sure it’s set to “Hexadecimal”. Click OK.
- This isn’t necessary, but it’s a good idea: Double-click “LanguageName”. Using the list below and the number or letter you just entered, enter the name of the language you wish to switch to. Click OK.
- If you have expansion packs, especially more than one, it could be helpful to change each key for each expansion (and the base game) just to be sure they’re kept in sync.

i want to ask :
1.how to change the language on the sims
2.can you send me a chesat on the sims 2
3.how to free download the sims life stories
thank you
I wait your mail
Thanks for reading. I’ll answer your questions the best I can.
1) That’s what this article is for, or you can use the link in it (it’s explained much better at ModTheSims2). Unless you mean the original Sims, which I don’t think there’s a language setting for, although I’m not sure.
Open your registry (regedit.exe) to “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\EA GAMES\The Sims 2″ or whatever newest expansion pack you have, “1.0″, and look for “Language” and “LanguageName”. Change both to the appropriate values (“Language” is the number, “LanguageName” is the text) in the list here or on ModTheSims2.
2) Cheat? Like what kind? The most famous I can think of is probably using Ctrl + Shift + C and entering ‘boolprop testingcheatsenabled true’. This enables special features when you hold the shift key while clicking an object. There’s cheat lists all over the Internet. I’m not sure what you’re looking for
3) I don’t know; I’ve never heard of that, and even if you could get it for free it would probably be illegal to do so.
I dont understand :S

I try to change my language on Sims 2 from English to Norsk (Norwegian) but i dont know how to do it
When i want to change my language im thinking of the text IN the game. You know, like the text when im doing something with my sim. Etc.: “Call someone” idk ? It should be: “Ring noen” on norwegian
Please help
Sorry. I’m not very good at writing tutorials.
First, open Registry Editor.
For Windows XP: Start->Run-> type “regedit”
For Windows Vista: Start-> type “regedit” in the search field, and select it from the list that comes up.
Next, on the left side, find the information for your game.
If you just have the base game without any expansion packs, go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\EA GAMES\The Sims 2\1.0
If you have an expansion pack, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\EA GAMES\(name of expansion pack)\1.0
After selecting the “1.0″ folder, find the keys labeled “Language” and “LanguageName” on the right side of the window.
In your case, for Norwegian, change the value of “Language” to 16 (make sure it’s set to hexadecimal). Then change “LanguageName” to “Norsk”.
The language should be changed the next time you start the game.
If you need more help, feel free to ask. I think I need to rewrite this tutorial. In retrospect it really isn’t very good.
Thank you.
Of course. I’m glad someone was able to get something out of my poor writing.
