Run, don’t walk to your nearest ReactOS dealer. Fresh from the oven.
Ok so this release isn’t as enticing as 0.3.5, but hey it’s only been a month. Compare this now to 0.3.5, it had almost 2 months overdue of work done on it.
I will so be testing it later. Will report back.
Reporting back..
Well there’s not much to say really.. Don’t have a lot of stuff to test, Firefox seems worse than before. There’s not one time where I used it in 0.3.6 where it didn’t bluescreen.
On the upside I think 0.3.7 will be a more interesting release by far, at least for laymen like me. More up-front changes that are easier to digest. Like I’ve said before I’m not into the internals really.
There are a lot, and I do mean a LOT, of small but important changes bubbling under the seemingly similar surface. I can’t state that enough. It doesn’t look much different but it’s getting better all the time under the hood.
There are some pretty interesting changes going on in trunk builds
The two most obvious ones I can think of are the Fonts folder and Alt-Tab app switching.
The Fonts folder is heaven-sent for me because trying to get Japanese fonts in is a pain en la…head. Though, as of the latest build (35186) The actual folder doesn’t display fonts (from the Control Panel anyway, they show up elsewhere)
Alt-tab app switching is in there, trust me. It just doesn’t work yet. Yeah I know, “What good does it do me if it’s not working?” etc. They’re missing a few things still yet, the commit message says
start implementing the alt-tab app switching dialog requires WH_KEYBOARD_LL hook which is not yet ready
so, I guess it’s not yet ready
I’ll try to test more as time allows.

I loaded the ReactOS 0.3.6 and found it to be very interesting. Since it is only an alpha release, there are several problems. But I am sure, the beta release will be very promising. At last I could see some alternative to windows which is highly demanding. In future, the ReactOS may contain many applications from Linux. Once this OS is ready for use, I could foresee many more windows like operating systems mushrooming with the free NT kernel developed by the ReactOS group. I salute the ReactOS developers for their great effort. I wish them great success.
As do I
Maybe Microsoft will finally get over itself.
Unfortunately I can’t really help the project much any more. I want to, but I feel a bit..”unneeded.” I think I’m only getting in the way.
I’d totally be up for being a beta tester though.
